MARCEL J RODEKA
is a professional drummer, songwriter and teacher with over five decades of experience in the music industry.
He began playing drums as a teenager and turned professional at 19, co-founding the internationally touring band Mother Goose from Dunedin, New Zealand. Since then, Marcel has enjoyed a lifelong career as a working musician.
For nearly 30 years he has been a core member of iconic Dunedin band Oxo Cubans (NZ), performing a wide range of styles for audiences both locally and internationally. Alongside this, he remains in demand as a freelance drummer for live shows and recording projects.
Over the past 24 years, Marcel has also built a reputation as an inspiring and down-to-earth drum teacher, sharing not only technical skills but the real-world experience of a life in music. His teaching philosophy is simple: focus on what you know, make it feel great, and keep growing.
Once known for high-energy stadium performances behind three bass drums, Marcel today continues to live and breathe music — performing, teaching and creating new work with the same passion that started it all.
